What is Psychological Testing?

Psychological testing seeks to gain wholistic understanding of who individuals are and how they function. Various domains of an individual’s overall functioning are evaluated for including emotions, behaviors, thoughts, development, intelligence, learning, etc. For some, identifying specific diagnoses may be the goal, while for others, it may simply be nuanced understanding of who they are and how they function.

Psychological testing includes a combination of history gathering, behavioral/interpersonal observation, objective data from mental health measures and/or personality measures, objective data from other cognitive measures, and gathering input from other sources of one's history of functioning. Information from these domains are integrated to provide a comprehensive understanding of the underlying factors contributing to an individual’s concerns, and offers a foundation for developing treatment strategies, educational accommodations, and/or personal growth plans.​
